The Remote Sensing Laboratory at Oregon State University‘s College of Forestry is seeking a highly motivated student to pursue a Ph.D. in the Department of Forest Engineering Resources and Management.

The successful candidate will be involved in DOE/USDA funded research on monitoring carbon cycle dynamics within Oregon’s urban-suburban-forested-agricultural landscapes and will include time series analysis of Landsat and MODIS satellite imagery. This research will be part of a team effort aimed at developing an observation-based analysis framework to assess interactions between climate and mosaics of land use, land cover and urbanization and associated carbon, water, and energy dynamics.

Applicants should hold a master’s degree, have a background in remote sensing, with solid quantitative analysis skills, and have an interest in carbon monitoring applications. Programming skills are desirable.

The research assistantship will have duration of two years initially, starting in September 2014. The assistantship includes a competitive stipend, plus coverage of tuition, fees and medical insurance. US citizenship is not required; the university is an AA/EEO employer and encourages applications from women and minorities.
