NGA Announces CIA Veteran as Deputy Director

NGASPRINGFIELD, Virginia — The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency announced today that Susan M. Gordon, a 34-year veteran of the intelligence community, will become deputy director upon the retirement of Mike Rodrigue, current NGA deputy director.

Gordon has wide-ranging executive management experience and has served in senior leadership positions in all four of the CIA’s directorates. In her most recent position as director of the CIA’s information operations center she was responsible for transforming espionage through cyber by blending human and technical solutions to produce high-impact intelligence in support of national security interests. Just prior to this assignment, Gordon served as the CIA’s director for support and the director of special activities.

“Sue’s reputation across the intelligence community is without peer,” said NGA Director Robert Cardillo. “She is widely admired for her leadership, partnership and mission delivery. I could not be more excited to welcome her.”

Gordon will replace Rodrigue, who will retire Dec. 31. Rodrigue was appointed as deputy director June 2012.

“For more than 46 years, Mike has served our country with great distinction,” said Cardillo. “His career has been characterized by exceptional accomplishment and selfless service which earned him our abiding respect and admiration. I am honored to have served with him — and I’m proud to call him my friend — he will be missed.”
