Kerala Water Authority to use GIS in Pipelines Mapping and Monitoring

KWAIn recent news by The Hindu, the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) is planning to use 3D GIS mapping of the pipelines in the city’s distribution system. The system will facilitate KWA to get correct database and maps of the pipeline distribution.

The use of GIS as Amenity Management (AM) and Amenity Facility (AF) will add facility in tracking any defect, leakage or any other disorder in water and sewage lines.

Use of GIS will also help in measurement of production and distribution and co-relating it with the revenue collection to ascertain the actual non-revenue water in the city.

As per the official records, the city has a total distribution network of 1,500 km covering major parts of the city. Water is supplied to the region through three main clear water sumps having a total capacity of 21 million litres.
