Dhakambe, the First Village to Mapped under E-gaothan

nashik_In recent news, Dhakambe a village located around 15 km from Nashik city, has become the first village in Maharashtra under the e-gaothan pilot project.

E-gaothan is a land record modernization pilot project to have error-free land records using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Electronic Total Station (ETS).

“The project, which was taken up in the village in June, was completed by November end. The process was carried out using the latest technology, the GPS and the ETS, instead of the earlier system which used Theodolite machines that had margin of errors,” A S Kulkarni, DS, LR, Nashik said.

The system will be replicated in one village of the remaining 14 talukas in the district from February.

“The new technology is likely to make the work simpler; collection of data for every gaothan now takes three months instead of the usual one year,” Kulkarni said.

The process of preparing detailed land records of the gaothans began in 1920. The state government has decided to prepare records of all gaothans in villages with population of more than 2,000.
