Call for Papers: A Special Issue of Remote Sensing of Environment on Landsat 8 Science Results

Landsat_8With the launch of the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) in February 2013, the already unprecedented Landsat global record continues and could reach 50 years or longer in length. LDCM, renamed, Landsat 8 when the mission was declared operational in May 2013, is based on several technological advances that are providing more and higher quality multispectral data than previous Landsat missions. In addition, Landsat 8 includes new multispectral measurements that are expanding science and applications. The proposed special issue will address Landsat 8 systems performance, data characteristics and quality, advances in land and water characterization associated with the improved Landsat 8 imaging systems, evidence of new or improved applications resulting from Landsat 8’s advanced capabilities., and the extension of time series and broad area analyses engendered by the enhanced temporal and geographic coverage afforded by Landsat 8 operations.

Papers will be solicited from (1) USGS-NASA Landsat Science Team members that are tasked with evaluating the characteristics and science and applications readiness of Landsat 8 data, and (2) any remote sensing researcher(s) with relevant Landsat 8 results.

Guest Editors

Jim Irons (NASA) and Tom Loveland (USGS), Landsat Science Team Co-Chairs.
