Iran Defines 7 Projects to Use Remote Sensing for Monitoring Agriculture

Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization and Iran-Remote Sensing for Monitoring AgricultureAccording to recent news by the Mehr news Agency, the Iranian Space Agency has defined 7 mega projects in the field remote sensing for monitoring agricultural products with high precision.

Mohammad Homayoum Sadr, Deputy Head of Iranian Space Agency, informed that 7 mega projects in the field of remote sensing in agriculture will be handed to the private and academic sectors by the end of the year so that with cooperation between these two sectors, agricultural products will be monitored with high precision.

He noted that the Space Agency has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture which includes projects relating to drought, drop in water level of lakes, and other environmental issues.

“The agricultural products at this phase include wheat and barley that will be closely monitored from the time of planting to the time of harvest,” he said. “Then, with the help of remote sensing satellite images and cooperation of Ministry of Agriculture, the data will be extracted and analyzed.”

“Since global statistics on crops are approximate, the application of remote sensing technology will increase the accuracy of data considerably,” he added.
