Ahmedabad to go for Base map Mapping for Real-time Civic Services Monitoring

ahmedabad-municipal-corporationGujrat, India – Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approached ISRO’s Space Application Centre (SAC) for preparing a base map for Ahmedabad. The base map is a prerequisite for implementing the ambitious Geographical Information System (GIS) based real-time civic services monitoring.

To start with, the AMC will provide primary data to SAC regarding settlement locations, land use patterns, road networks, security and CCTV network, infrastructure, socio -economic profile and even groundwater potential. On priority, the base maps will put in multi-layered information on property tax and active civic lines.

“The whole concept of smart homes that is linked to your civic services through a mobile phone app is a possibility we have considered. So, if I am out of town for 10 days, I can switch off the main municipal water supply using the mobile app. Pay as you use,” said the officer.

The big plan is to integrate the e-governance platform with ISRO base map, which is highly accurate. The AMC has also kept in mind that smart city technologies will create a demand for Internet of Things (IoT) devices in the future.

The base map will useful for property tax collection or civic bills. Even more, mapping of local incidences such as of crime, disease, transport and accidents map can be put as layers on the map, for detailed analysis of trends and appropriate measures at the right time.
