NIT Karnataka is Inviting Applications for Admission to Ph.D Programmes for the Academic Year 2013-14(December Session)

The National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 was enacted by the Parliament of India to declare India’s National Institutes of Technology as Institutes of National Importance. The Act received the assent of the President of India on 5 June 2007 and became effective on Independence Day ,2007.

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal is one of such an NIT and is rated as one of the top technological universities in India. Since its inception in 1960 as the Karnataka Regional Engineering College, the Institute has established itself as a premier center engaged in imparting quality technological education and providing support to research and development activities. The Institute has a long tradition of research for several decades in both traditional and modern areas of engineering and sciences in all departments. The Institute has been actively involved in applicative research in looking at and resolving problems faced by the society in several areas like environment, water resources, rock mechanics, new structures, VLSI, etc.

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for admission to Ph.D Programmes for the academic year 2013-14(December Session).

Eligibility 

Admission to a Ph.D. Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/ university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 or 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates.

The prescribed qualifying examination is as follows:

a. For Ph.D. in Engineering/Technology – Master’s degree in relevant field.
b. For Ph.D. in Science /Humanities, Social Sciences & Management – Master’s degree in relevant field.

  • Last Date for receiving completed applications – 25.11.2013 (Monday).
  • Applications to be sent to the Departments for processing, on or before – 25.11.2013 (Monday).
  • Preparing preliminary merit-list or short-listing – 29.11.2013 (Friday)
  • Last date for dispatch of call letters to short-listed candidates, and 

    announcement in the website by respective departments – 02.12.2013 (Monday)

  • Selection Test and/or Interview – 16.12.2013 (Monday)
  • Publication of provisional selection/merit-list on website – 18.12.2013 (Wednesday)
  • Last date for Sending admission orders/letters – 23.12.2013 (Monday)
  • Reporting Dates for Selection-List Candidates – 23.12.2013 to 27.12.2013
  • Last Date for sending admission orders/letters to waiting-list candidates – 31.12.2013 (Tuesday) 
  • Commencement of Programme – 30.12.2013 (Monday)
  • Last Date for Reporting, for waiting-list candidates – 06.01.2014 (Monday) 

How to Apply

Application form and information brochure can be downloaded from NITK website and completed application form is to be sent to the Dy. Registrar (Academic) NITK, along with necessary D.D. for Rs. 500/- (in case of SC/ST Rs. 150/-) drawn in favour of the Director, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, Srinivasnagar, payable at State Bank of India, Surathkal / Canara Bank NITK Campus Branch Surathkal. Application without the D.D for the required amount will not be considered. The last date for submission of completed application is 25.11.2013.

    I have completed Masters in Geography as a Science Stream, and have secured 6.3 CGPA. And in addition, have secured NET/JRF from CSIR last May.

    Would I be eligible to join in your esteemed university.
