The USGIF Awards Program annually recognizes the exceptional work of the geospatial intelligence tradecraft’s brightest minds and innovative organizations. Highlighting the achievements of those within the global GEOINT Community, the awards program also boosts morale, inspires the community, and increases interest in the field.

Individuals and organizations engaged in GEOINT-related fields including nontraditional technologies and capabilities—whether in social media, open source, Big Data, Internet of Things, data analytics, ISR, mobile, virtual and augmented reality, or others—are encouraged to apply.

Selection Process

The USGIF Awards Subcommittee is made up of a standing committee and a group of volunteers selected each year. These volunteers are USGIF Individual Members or employees of a USGIF Organizational Member. Volunteers are selected based on their prompt response to a USGIF call for volunteers, as well as their availability to commit to a strict review process timeline. USGIF is not involved in the selection process. Award winners are selected based on the review and evaluation criteria below.

Review and Evaluation

Nominations are evaluated on the quality of the answers to each of the four application questions. However, there are common threads that truly characterizes each of the past USGIF award recipients, and you are encouraged to keep these points in mind as you are writing your nomination:

  • Previous winners have all articulated how the achievement—whether it be a program, technology, research, or support activity—advances and promotes the GEOINT tradecraft and its broader impact on the community.
  • Winners have illustrated how the innovative technologies or leading edge research have an actual effect or potential effect (in the case of research nominations) on mission or mission requirements.

Notifications

The committee will notify winners if they have been selected. Recipients will be presented their award on the main stage at the general session at the GEOINT 2018 Symposium, April 22-25 at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida. The exact date and time of the awards presentation will be provided when winners are notified of selection.

Those nominations that were not chosen as award recipients will be notified by email after the winners are selected.

Deadline: January 12, 2018.
